The underground city in Cappadocia which was home to 20,000 inhabitants [photos]

The photos show the well-hidden 18 “spaces” underground city that was in the glory days of the 20,000 people…
The discovery was made in 1963 when a man threw a wall in his basement and was found in front of a hidden room.
Now come to publicity excellent photos of the hobs in the kitchens, stables, temples, tombs and schools, up to 18 meters under the earth.

Scientists estimate that the town was created in the byzantine era, around the 780-1180 m.X. and the city of Derinkuyu was probably used as a shelter to protect civilians in time of war or of natural disasters.
The security system was quite complicated with stone doors that could stop the invaders, and with each “area” – the space can be isolated separately.
