a key turning point in the development of byzantine art in general. In Cyprus, occupied since 1191 by the crusaders and the autocephalous Church of be enslaved to the Pope of Rome in accordance with the Cyprus Arrangement, known as the bulla Cypria, the artistic turning point is also evident with local peculiarities.
The Report “Κυπριακῷ, τρόπῳ – Maniera Cypria” is intended to highlight the painting in Cyprus during the 13th century, and the ways artistic symbiosis between the two worlds, East and West, in the works of the period. Through the icons presented in the Exhibition, but also in combination with other paintings or other καλλιτεχικών branch, analyzed the parameters that affect the artistic production: the culturally variegated environment created in Cyprus in the first century of the frankish conquest of the island, the installation of the Latin Church, the presence of Western artists, and refugees from Syria, Palestine, and possibly from the same Constantinople, the Greek kingdoms or the Δεσποτάτα. The aim is to αισθητοποιηθεί, that the art of the first century by the frankish conquest of Cyprus (1191-1300) is a continuation of the rich byzantine art of υστεροκομνήνειας period, with little or very fertile, expertly mixed and foreign elements, which are located on the secondary points of the compositions.
For the artistic production of the 13th century in Cyprus have been prepared especially chapters by distinguished researchers (D.D. Dateline, Etc. Vafiadis, Char. Χοτζάκογλου, Chr. Hadjichristodoulou and I. Eliades) to be published in the bilingual Catalogue of the Exhibition (Greek-English). The Exhibition presents images from the rich collection of the Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios iii Foundation, and images from all over Cyprus, which were donated by the Metropolis of Morphou, Limassol and Paphos.
The Exhibition, curated by the director of the Byzantine Museum, dr. Ioannis Eliades, organized by the Foundation of Archbishop Makarios iii in collaboration with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, on the occasion of the 40 anniversary of the death of national leader Archbishop Makarios iii and the creation of the Cultural Center of the Archbishop Makarios iii Foundation. The Exhibition is part of the programmes of the Cyprus Tourism Organization for the religious Tourism and is one of the official events of the european Capital of culture – Pafos 2017.
